Make phone calls through tablets sans sim cards

Movirtu has reportedly come up with a software platform called Cloudphone, which allows users to make calls over Wi-Fi networks using their mobile phone numbers on tablets and laptops sans a regular sim card.

Moreover, operators can also offer CloudPhoneon smartphones as an alternative to improve cellular coverage using small cells

Movirtu's CEO Carsten Brinkschulte said that with the IP-based CloudPhone, tablets and laptops become virtual smartphones, allowing users to make and receive calls even when they are out of mobile coverage range or incase of low battery, PC World reported.

Brinkschulte said that mobile operators can rely on cheaper Wi-Fi networks, instead of using small cells.

Meanwhile, travelers could use Cloudphone to reduce their roaming costs by making calls over Wi-Fi.
